Black Labrador Puppies are precious and to many the most regal of the three colors of Labrador Retrievers.  Black is the dominant color in Labradors with yellow and chocolate being recessive.  Black Labradors were used in the field for over 100 years due to general feeling they were more capable and possessed more stamina than the other two colors.  That belief is not as prevalent today due to many outstanding and accomplished chocolate and yellow Labradors.

 Black Lab Pups are intelligent and can either be a shiny black color or more of a matte finish.  They are born with eyes and ears sealed shut until they are about two weeks of age.  When they first open their eyes they are blue which gradually change to brown and their eyesight strengthens as they age.  Black Labrador Puppies are born with black pigment on their noses and feet pads.

All well bred Labrador Puppies, whether black, yellow or chocolate, are born with the classic otter tail and web feet which assist them in being a very strong swimmer when their build is superbly athletic.  Procuring a strong, healthy Black Labrador Puppy is dependent on intelligent and knowledgeable breeding practices by a professional Labrador breeder.

Black Labrador breeders know or have knowledge of the individual dogs listed on pups pedigree which is their family tree.  A competent Labrador breeder will take into consideration any weaknesses ancestors may have had and work to overcome them providing there are outstanding qualities to build on.

There are no perfect specimens but when you utilize superior Labradors knowledgeable breeders have created through many generations then you produce exceptional Black Labrador Puppies that are clear of hereditary conditions and general ailments.  As a professional Labrador puppy breeder, I strive to produce the exceptional Black Labrador Puppy with all the attributes as described in the Labrador Retriever Standard.  Such is the agreement I made upon becoming a Lifetime Member of The Labrador Retriever Club many years ago.
